(Photo of American Coots ...) September Bird Walk - Korth Park

The September walk took places in conjunction with the Bike & Hike with the Artists event by the Arts Alliance of Greater Lake Mills and through the auspices of the Friends of the Glacial Heritage Area. The walk was at Korth Park, site of many of the Bike & Hike with the Artists activities, making it part of a fun, family day.

We called it a "Nature Walk" as we were examining prairie plants with the help of Chris Doyle, Madison Audubon Faville Grove Land Steward. Insect life was on the agenda as well though very few butterflies or dragonflies seen due to the strong winds. Walk co-leader Charley Robert's granddaughters found a "galloping" caterpillar (the fastest one any of us had ever seen!) and a grasshopper that "got away". Charley's co-leaders were Clare Carlson, president of Friends of Glacial Heritage Area and Karen Etter Hale of Jefferson / Dodge Count Birdwalks. Thanks again to Karen for the excellent field notes. Full list of species sighted appears below.

If you couldn't be with us for this walk, we hope you will be able to join us for an upcoming field trip.
