(Photo of Blackbirds and Grackles ...) September Bird Walk - Zeloski Marsh


Our last walk of this season on September 19th, combined with a walk for the Madison Audubon Society took place at Zeloski Marsh near Lake Mills.

We had good views of many fall migrants, especially ducks and other waterfowl. One surprise was finding a flock of 50 Pied Billed Grebes swimming in one of the impoundments. No one in the group could recall seeing such a large flock anywhere in the area. We were also privileged to see a kettle of about 40 Broadwinged Hawks circling as they gained altitude during migration. There were many other interesting sightings, as shown in the complete list below.
