June Bird Walk - Dorothy Carnes Park East

Despite concerns over rain, we had relatively pleasant weather for our June walk on the east side of Dorothy Carnes Park. This time of the year, there are fewer waterfowl and warblers to be seen. However, there are many resident species and that will always include waterfowl and warblers that breed in the area. As a result we tallied 42 species for the walk, a good number for this time of the year. Perhaps the best treat was seeing a Field Sparrow very well and up close! We also figured out, finally, that the irritatingly quiet flycatcher was a Willow Flycatcher. All in all, a very fun and successful walk.
If you couldn't join us for this walk, we hope you will for a future walk. There is always something fun and interesting to see on the walks.

loop to west, north, and back through prairie (1.3 miles total).

dragonflies, and damselflies.
