June Walk - East Side of Dorothy Carnes Park
A small but enthusiastic group of birders braved warm temperatures and humidity to explore the many habitats on the east side of Dorothy Carnes Park. They were not disappointed in the results! We had great looks at many birds including a couple of surprises. These included a Red-headed Woodpecker, seen and heard calling for an extended period. The other showstopper was a Common Gallinule walking for many minutes in plain view on the east side of Rose Lake. The east side of the park provides views of portions of the lake difficult or impossible to see from the more visited west side. All in all, it was a most satisfying walk.
The illustration on this page is a photo of the Red-headed Woodpecker we saw, taken by one of the walkers.
If you were unable to join us, you missed some exciting treats. We hope you can join us for future walks.
