(Photo of a few walkers ...) June Bird Walk - Rose Lake walk

Several stout hearted birders braved possible rain to join us for a walk on the east side of Rose Lake State Natural Area in Jefferson County (Dorothy Carnes Park). The rain held off, allowing a very enjoyable and entertaining walk this month. Highlights included sighting "Whitey", the all white Red Tailed Hawk who has lived in the park for several years; many singing and flying Bobolinks; several singing Eastern Meadowlarks, including one who posed nicely for viewing; and a number of discussions about the extensive wildflowers growing at the site. A complete list of the species seen, along with notes about some of the non-bird "critters" encountered, is below. Once again many thanks to Karen Etter Hale for her excellent field notes!

If you couldn't be with us for this walk, we hope you will be able to join us for an upcoming field trip.
