July Bird Walk - Aztalan State Park

(Photo of American Goldfinch ...)

Our first walk ever in a state park went very well. We had a beautiful day, especially at the start, and enjoyed views of 37 species, a very respectable number. Treat of the day was undoubtedly a Dickcissel! This bird was a lifer for one of our party, making it even more special. Some views were puzzling at first as we found ourselves looking at very nondescript juveniles. That's an occupational hazard of birding for this time of year. Working together, we were able to identify most of them. All in all, this was a very fun and entertaining walk. Once again, special thanks to karen Etter Hale for excellent notes.
If you couldn't join us for this walk, we hope you will be able to for a future walk. There is always something fun and interesting to see on the walks.

Below is a complete list of bird species identified.
