August Bird Walk - Korth Park Prairie

(Photo of American Goldfinch ...)

The day started overcast and a bit cool for the time of year but we were still able to find many grassland birds. We also spent some time studying the various prairie plants, many of which were blooming beautifully. As the morning progressed it got a bit warmer and the sun started to break through. This made the butterflies and dragonflies wake up and provided more for us to see.
The treat of the walk for most was probably hearing and then seeing close up a number of Field-Sparrows. This has been a good season for finding Field-Sparrows on our walks. We were also treated to a large number of Barn Swallows busily flying and feeding over the prairie.
If you couldn't join us for this walk, we hope you will be able to for a future walk. You will miss something fun and interesting if you're not with us!

Below is a complete list of bird species identified.
